A taste of Swedish Easter

For some reason that I've never quite understood, all the kids dress up like witches (happy, colorful witches, not green and black, scary witches like at halloween) during Easter. (I'll have to do more research on why). It was fun dressing the kids up and seeing them get all excited. Our apartment complex has a little gathering each year with hot dogs and games. In the morning, we had our own little easter egg hunt in our little yard and then headed over to the festivities. The kids have had A LOT of candy today. They get to eat it tomorrow and Monday as well, then we've decided all the extra candy, we couldn't eat, we'll put back in the easter eggs, hide them again in our yard and have the bunnies come and find them and let them have the rest. After that, all the kids are committed to going the rest of the year without candy. (For some reason, they think it'll be fun). If they can go all year, they get a surprise! That goes for mommy and daddy too :)! HAPPY EASTER everyone!

Great pictures as always! It is one of those old heathen traditions from mid 1800s.... the witches travel to "blåkulla" on their brooms. Hence the valborgsmässobrasor to scare them away... How we got from there to actually dressing up as påsk-kärringar and handing out home made cards and receiving candy in return is a mystery to me... Maybe we are trying to follow the Americans Halloween example?!

Weird! It's fun to see the different traditions. :) Your kids are adorable! The little painted freckles on the girls' cheeks are just too cute!
